WHICH IS THE BEST CARTRIDGE PRINTER - INK JET OR LASER TONER?

The question of which printer is the best to buy - well there are a number of considerations, but namely what type of printer cartridge.

Like most things, money is a prime consideration in choosing the type of printer you want, and many inkjets are less expensive to begin with, and the cost of ink has come down and the efficiencies have gone up.  In addition to the cost of ink being lower, the cost of non-OEM (compatible) or remanufactured ink is also relatively low, and the quality is consistently improving, to where it is often impossible to differentiate. Inkjet printers also offer the convenience of individual ink cartridges for each color in many models, further adding to the cost-savings.
Besides the ink, many of the printers from today’s manufacturers like HP, Lexmark, and Epson to name a few, are able to produce laser-quality print output without the higher initial cost. While inkjets are not designed to print several thousand pages a month, a home/home office  isn’t printing that much to begin with. In addition, office-centric inkjet multifunction printers are able to provide the convenience of a document feeder, automatic two-sided printing, and the ability to do up to four functions (print, scan, copy, and sometimes fax) in one machine for a lower initial cost as well as to produce much better quality photos.
Lasers are particularly popular where larger volumes of printing are required, however. Laser printers do produce high-quality text and are certainly durable, though they do generally require a higher initial investment. The writers do mention that they thought the number of laser users would have been greater than the number of inkjets, but the results of the ongoing poll have not shown that to be true as of yet.

CLOUD PRINT BY GOOGLE

Want to use your Laptop, Tablet, Iphone, Android and print it at home or office, then 'Cloud' is what you use.

The 'cloud' is suddenly all around us, including  through your printer(s).

Many printers  use expensive to install cabling along with a server in the office. Now that is becoming obsolete.
Google Cloud Print is a new technology that connects your printer(s) to the internet. Using Google Cloud Print, you can make your home and work printers available to you and anyone you choose, from the applications you use every day, which for applications such as order taking, or even you child at school who has just completed a project on their laptop, they can print it at home/office.

Any type of application can use Google Cloud Print. To see how it works, just go to Google's cloud print development page.

RECYCLING PRINTED PAPER BY REMOVING THE INK

Future technology will remove previously printed words from the paper.

There is a lot of talk about how to recycle printer cartridges, but what about printing paper?
We know you can put it into a second rubbish bin, from where it gets reprocessed, but there is another way coming soon.
Toshiba had designed a new technology which erases the printed text from paper, the sheet then becoming available to use again. In fact, up to five times again.
Read the article by Jon Martindale headed "Toshiba's Erasable Ink Printing Tech Shown Off".

PRINTER CARTRIDGE MAINTENANCE AGREEMENTS; ARE THEY A RESTRICTION OF TRADE?

Often printer users are locked into a maintenance agreement preventing them from buying cheaper toner cartridges.

So what to do? Well, there is not much you can do, but wait until the maintenance agreement expires.
When a brand supplier such as Brother, Canon, or HP sell a business consumer a printer, or printers, they sprout the advantages of signing up for a maintenance agreement, and the dire perils if you don't.
What they don't tell you is that for them, the Maintenance Agreement is where the real profits are!
The user is locked in and can't escape the agreement. And certainly when your printer needs another cartridge, it is promptly delivered, and normally their service is acceptable, but if you require parts - "oh, if you look at the small print, that's not included".
Have you noticed how the supplier will encourage you to sign up for two years - obviously the longer the better to enjoy 'this restriction of trade'.
And finally, have you tried to evaluate the cost of the printer cartridges as they are replaced, as a cost component of the agreement? No. Probably a good idea not to, the shock could be severe.
It might just pay you to look around for an independant printer maintenace firm, usually manned by ex senior-technicians previously with the brand company anyhow who will charge you a lot less, and allow you to chose your own printer cartidges.

ENVIRONMENTAL IS THE ISSUE; PRINTER CARTRIDGES ARE THE CONSUMABLE

How can we minimize printer cartridge dumping by businesses, large & small?
Businesses are becoming more conscious of polluting their environment, and are becoming socially aware of the need to dispose of their wastage in order to have a minimum effect on pollution.
They use large volumes of toner & ink cartridges, and when they are used, can't find a way to dispose of them.
So you entrepreneurial types out there, here is your chance to make money.
From my experiences, businesses would be happy to keep a container for waste cartridges, either genuine &/or compatible. And they will pay for the service.
Not only could you charge for a collection service to the business users, but also earn from selling on genuine cartridges for remanufacture, and to organisations who break down the compatibles for their components.
If you already have a business that does this work, send us an email with your webpage and we'll link it to this blog! The email address is cart.environment@gmail.com.

A BROTHER TN2130 TONER CARTRIDGE DOES NOT GO WITH A BROTHER HL2130 PRINTER

Ordering the wrong printer cartridge can be expensive & time lost.

Are you virtually sitting be the front door waiting for the courier to arrive with the urgently needed printer cartridge, and yes, he's here. You'll just have time to print out that urgently needed investment report you have brilliantly compiled, and will clinch the deal for you.
But whoa, the cartridge won't fit! You phone the supplier & give him 'what for'. They investigate your order, and courteously advise that you ordered the TN2130 toner cartridge for your printer. Yes, you did...so.
They say they sent you what you ordered. They then ask what is your printer model...why it's a  Brother HL2130. Ah, sorry. But the correct cartridge for the HL2130 is theTN2030. Did you check the Üse for printers section', when you placed your order? Nooooooo!
Can you return it to the supplier? Not if you've opened it, which you probably would have done to discover it didn't fit.
Not only do you have to order the correct printer cartridge, and pay for it, with no one wanting the used one, but your urgent report hasn't been printed. So what was the name of the client's PA, maybe I can email it to her & she can print it off for me before I get to the meeting....DUH!
To conclude, why don't the Brand suppliers make sure their products differentiate their printer & cartidge SKU's (product numbers).
For your printer cartridge requirements, visit ABC Printsupplies

P.S. The correct toner cartridge for a Brother HL2130 printer is the TN2030.

WRONG PRINTER CARTRIDGE SENT - WHAT TO DO?

THE OVERNIGHT PRINTER CARTRIDGE YOU ORDERED ARRIVES , BUT IT DOES'NT LOOK RIGHT - AAAHHHHH!

The first thing not to do is panic & reach for the phone to abuse the supplier for sending you the wrong one.
There are a number of factors to consider:

  1. The box can have a code on it that does'nt match what you ordered. Usually this is because it is an international code and is not the OEM code for the brand or the SKU code (supplier's code), but is the right cartridge.
  2. For a compatible the shape is different in shape to the original, because copyright patents mean that the non-genuine cartridge has to be at least 25% different to the original.
  3. When ordering always check the printer model for the cartridge on the web site.
When you open the box, do so carefully so as to be able to repack it should there be a need to return it, but most reputable suppliers actually electronically pick the order, and weigh it before couriering it out.
So the chances of getting the wrong one are really very remote.

BEWARE OF FALSELY ADVERTISED PRINTER CARTRIDGES PRICES ON THE INTERNET

A number of cartridge printer suppliers are using  shonky methods to make their cartridges appear cheaper than they are on the internet.

Especially on respectable sites like 'My Shopping ' and 'Get Price'.
To make their price appear the cheapest, and go to the top of the queue, they load the shipping cost to around $15 for say an advertised $18.90 toner cartridge. The shipping cost for them might be actually $7.00, so they cream $8.00 for the difference although they might lose say $2.00 on their acquisition cost for the cartridge, which costs them $20.90 to buy-in, to display it as the cheapest and be first entry on the queue.. so  a very neat margin of 28.7% is achieved .
But it does'nt stop there. When it's in the cart & you have gone to the trouble of entering your details for delivery plus credit card, you then find an additional % charge passed on to you for the cost of the credit card transaction or the 2.5% fee which Paypal charges.
At ABC Printsupplies, you are only charged an extra $8 for delivery, for one or more cartridges.

PRINTER CARTRIDGE DELIVERY COURIERS - BEWARE THE ATL

When you order ink or printer cartridges (or anything else for that matter) via the internet or by telephone, then you might advise that if you are not at the premises at time of delivery, to leave the cartridge(s) in a certain location e.g. under back stairs (known as Authority to Leave, or ATL).
But you should read the terms of suppliers/couriers.
In many cases, unless you begin your authority with 'If no one at premises, then....', the courier will place the order in your requested location without knocking or entering reception first.
We see customers who have not left the premises wondering why delivery has net been made, forgetting they placed an ATL, or assuming the courier would contact you on arrival.
And as for wanting the courier to deliver between X and Y hours, forget it, they don't have the time to personalise delivery.
Note:   This blog is applicable to Australian courier proceedures.

CAN YOU TRUST WEB SITES FOR PRINTER CARTRIDGE PURCHASES?

Ordering your Printer Cartridge on the Internet

My own business often gets 'phone enquiries from other businesses/individuals  asking about security concerns of placing an order for their Ink/Toner printer cartridges.
The concern for customers is:  (a) making their credit card details available to the web site, and
                                              (b) never seeing the products they have ordered.
To help allay your fears, there are some factors that you can take into account. If the web page offers a telephone number, then that in itself is a way of saying that that supplier is reputable.
The next thing to look for is the layout of a website and the access from one page to others, particularly product pages. There is a great deal of cost in setting up a web page, which is beyond the means of a shonky operator. So if a web site offers flexability then it will be OK.
Finally, there is TLS/SSL security in the form of Cryptographic Protocols that prevents eavesdropping and tampering so that your credit card details or PayPal details remain confidential. The credit card details are not even available to the webpage operator, which in fact makes it more secure than giving your credit card details on the 'phone.
But if you still have a concern, then for peace of mind.....'phone.

WHY COMPATIBLE INK CARTRIDGES ARE WINNING THE RACE AGAINST GENUINE INK CARTRIDGES

And the thought that comes up immediately into your mind is ‘price’.

Well, yes & no.

Yes, because you will buy the cheapest price if you are satisfied it will do the job, to an acceptable level.

No, because for a lot of users they are prepared to even pay more if they believe they are getting better value for money i.e. quantity of usage, quality of ink, effect on the longitivity of the printer.

And it is the ‘no’ factor that the suppliers of genuine ink cartridges have been hanging their hats on. But is the user been duped?

Recent snippets of information coming through suggest that the compatible cartridges are leaving genuine sales behind, forcing the brand name manufacturers such as Canon, Lexmark, etc to vigorously  attempt to try legal means to stop the invasion of the ‘look- a- likes’.

Compatible cartridges are either made from new “cores” (the plastic housing holding the ink or toner) or made from used empty cores that have been tested and refilled to factory specifications. All compatible cartridges are fully compatible with the machines and will not void any warranty. The compatible industry has greatly matured in the past few years providing high levels of reliability and quality while employing cutting edge manufacturing techniques.

An example of why the compatibles are winning can be seen from a compatible ink manufacturer:
“….extensive tests on our Brother LC-37/47/57 ink cartridges and although Brother boast about their "Innobella" inks, we can’t pick the difference in print quality between our compatibles and their Genuine cartridges. Even on high gloss photographic paper we can notice NO difference in print quality. All of our compatible Brother ink cartridges are manufactured to ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards.”

WHY BUY COMPATIBLE /REMANUFACTURED TONER CARTRIDGES AS REPLACEMENTS?

Early last year I was talking to a friend who was in charge of a chartered accountancy business. It was a successful business which he had built up over a long period of time, and it used five printers altogether. I suggested that he  might avail himself of our compatible &/or remanufactured cartridges and save costs.

He replied that yes, he would dramatically save costs by purchasing them, but that he was not prepared to compromise the quality of his printing, nor risk downtime by using non-genuine cartridges. I did not pursue the discussion any further with him, applying the well known adage, ‘You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink ‘!

To my surprise and delight, I recently received an email from the accountant, asking if we had compatible cartridges for his printer models. He placed an order, and has since reordered. He had seen the light.

Many print cartridge consumers believe the quality and quantity of print will not be of the same standard as genuine ones. However compatible toner cartridges are manufactured to the exact OEM standards of your laser printer. They are guaranteed to be as good or better than the original cartridge. They will print the same number of pages with the same quality.

Did you know many major printer companies are selling you compatible and remanufactured toner cartridges? The problem is, you're paying full price for their brand name toner cartridge. Look at your package label. You will see in most cases the notation, "manufactured from new and recycled parts". There lies your answer.
There has been considerable improvement in time with the manufacturing standards of compatible cartridges, both in toners and ink jets. The technology used to produce compatible toner cartridges is now as good as the technology used to create OEM toner cartridges. The days of drill and fill are over. Reputable toner companies use many of the same components as outlined in OEM specifications, i.e., toner, new drums, rollers, etc.
If after reading this, you still prefer genuine cartridges, then you will have peace of mind, at a price.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRINTER CARTRIDGES

WHY BUY ECO-FRIENDLY REMANUFACTURED CARTIDGES?

Remanufactured cartridges have been recycled to meet or exceed OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications. When an empty cartridge is returned they are taken apart and cleaned, all of the old seals are removed, the wipers, drum and rollers are removed. The recycling and reprocessing process involves disassembling, inspecting, replacing worn parts, reassembling, and filling the toner or ink. Once the remanufacturing process is complete, the cartridge is then print tested, sealed, and packaged for resale, in clean environmental factory conditions.

They are manufactured under ISO 9001 international standards with page yields equal to, and in some cases higher than the originals. These cartridges will cost you about 40 to 60 percent less than using an genuine cartridges, which in themselves often partly use generic components.

They should not be confused with refills, which is where bore holes are placed in cartridges to refill them, and then plugged up. Refills do not have a high reliability level.

Remanufactured cartridges are also very "Green" or environmentally friendly. It takes approximately 2 litres of oil to manufacture a brand new toner cartridge and thousands of  tonnes of wasted cartridges are taking up space in land fills each year.

There are organizations such as Planet Ark  that you can leave your used cartridges at for recycling. They advise, "Through our hugely successful and innovative 'Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' program, we've recycled over 15 million printer cartridges!"

Australians throw away more than 18 million printer cartridges every year. This amounts to over 5,000 tonnes of material, including laser toner cartridges, inkjet cartridges, photocopier toner bottles and drums, that will eventually end up in landfill.
When printer cartridges break apart in landfill, they have the potential to contaminate groundwater and the environment.

CARTRIDGE FAILURE

YOUR  NEWLY ORDERED GENUINE, COMPATIBLE OR REMANUFACTURED CARTRIDGE FAILS TO WORK – AND YOU THINK, ‘I’VE BOUGHT A DUD! ’

From time to time a new customer contacts us to say they want a replacement, or their money back, because their cartridge(s) doesn’t work because it’s not recognized by the printer.

.

But there is a simple procedure that overcomes this problem be it a Brother, Canon, Epson, HP, or any of the other compatible brands in the market place.

Each cartridge has its own identification or serial number that is used by the printer to know if the cartridge is present. Occasionally, if you install a new cartridge the printer is still looking for the previous cartridge and won’t recognize the new one’s ID or serial number.

To avoid this problem, you need to follow a few procedural steps. Follow these steps when the printer either shows an error message or a flashing light.

1)    Remove the cartridge from the printer.
2)    Turn the power off at the wall socket (not the printer on/off switch)
3)    Wait at least 90 seconds
4)    Turn power back on at the wall socket
5)    Reinstall the cartridge, referring to the operating manual instructions on cartridge installation or the leaflet often supplied in the box with the cartridge.

And voila, back to printing those urgently required papers!

This is not the only solution to troubleshooting genuine, compatible and remanufactured cartridge problems, and future troubleshooting information will be supplied by ABC Print supplies to ensure you have minimum disruption to printing.
Or you might also want to take a look at this link, Trouble Shooting Your Ink Cartridge Problems to help sort out your problems.

DIFFERENT CARTRIDGE TYPES, SUBSTANCES AND ALL

INK CARTRIDGES, INKJETS, TONER CARTRIDGES, LASER TONERS, DRUMS… CONFUSED? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

I remember upon first coming into the industry my confusion with all the different types of cartridges. But really, there is not so much an array of different types of cartridges as with the proliferation of names.

Fundamentally there are two different types of cartridges – those that use ink, and those that use toner - a dry powdery substance. And for toners there is also the Drum Unit which you rarely need to order.

Usually the former i.e. the ink cartridge, the inkjet cartridge etc. are at the lower end of the cost range. They usually use a smaller cartridge that can fit onto the palm of your hand. As to be expected, they normally have a much lower yield capacity, often printing from approx 100 pages, but at times overlapping toner yield cartridges with output over 6,200 pages (Epson T0967 Light Black Ink Cartridge).Yield is the number of pages your toner cartridge should print based on 5% coverage per page (approximately one paragraph).

The inkjet printers are more often to be found in the home/office environment for family/small business requirements.

If you have a heavier printing requirement, then you will probably use a toner cartridge. What is a Toner cartridge (also called laser toner, mono toner etc.)? It is the consumable component of a laser printer which contains the material (toner) used to produce the image onto the paper. During the laser printing process, the toner is electrically charged (static) so that it is attracted to the printer drum. The toner is then transferred to the paper via a fuser which melts the laser toner to create the paper image.

The cartridge is cylindrical in shape, and is often the length of a freestanding computer keyboard. The toner cartridge usually starts at a higher capacity than the Inkjet, at around 1,500 pages for the Compatible Canon CART312 Mono Laser Cartridge. The highest yield cartridge in our stock is the Compatible Ricoh Type 6210D Mono Copier Cartridge at 43,000 pages.

At ABC Print Supplies, we have available all of the above cartridges as well as drum units, either as original, compatible, or remanufactured.
